Estimation of the pair correlation function of a point process
Vondráček, Jakub ; Dvořák, Jiří (advisor) ; Beneš, Viktor (referee)
This thesis deals with kernel estimation of the pair correlation function of a stationary and isotropic point process. Firstly, the basics of the theory of point processes are built up. Then, the derivation of formulas for expectation and variance of a kernel estimator is provided. Also, an extension of a simple Poisson approximation of variance to the case of an estimator with more complicated edge correction compared to what is usually used in the literature is given. These formulas depend on a parameter called bandwidth. The recommendations for selecting the bandwidth that can be found in the literature are summarised and simulation experiments are performed to assess the correctness of the derived formulas. These experiments also prove that a variance approximation obtained by ignoring so called "higher order correlations" is unjustified. Lastly, bandwidth selection and the advantages and disadvantages of several approaches for bandwidth selection are discussed. 1
Essays on Macro Imbalances, Monetary Policy and Exchange Rates
Hájek, Jan ; Horváth, Roman (advisor) ; Hartwell, Christopher (referee) ; Komárek, Luboš (referee) ; Kapounek, Svatopluk (referee)
The dissertation consists of four empirical papers in the field of monetary economics. The first paper examines the extent of real exchange rate misalignment in the selected euro area countries, the next two papers shed light on macroeconomic spillovers in the remaining EU countries which are not part of the single currency area, while the last paper focuses on the exchange rate pass-through in the Czech Republic.
Problem of sense in pedagogical and psychological context
Čermáková, Markéta ; Strouhal, Martin (advisor) ; Krykorková, Hana (referee)
The aim of this work is to describe pedagogical and psychological aspects of the process of finding a life sense and identify possible reasons of a life crisis and lost. The work also presents the possibilities, which pedagogy has within the area of finding and fixing a life purpose. Analysed themes are characteristic by the overlap to an everyday life and therefore it is suitable to focus on this theme not only in the psychological and philosophical perspective, but also in the context of pedagogical theory and practice. In the concrete chapters the theme is viewed as a transformation of family structures, media studies, free time.
An evaluation of real GDP growth forecasts
Kačmareková, Monika ; Jablonský, Petr (advisor) ; Dobrovolný, Marek (referee)
This paper is aimed at verifying the reliability of real GDP growth forecasts for Czech Republic periodically published. Concretely the prediction of different groups of institutions have been examined. It includes analysis of forecasts for the period 2003-2011. Evaluation criteria for assessing their accuracy consist of summary statistics, directional accuracy rate and graphical illustration of avereged prediction. These evaluation methods are important for the hypothesis verification. It has been demonstrated the ability to deliver more accurate forecasts in comparison with earlier period in a specific horizon, next, a rising precision of predictions with declining time horizon, systematic underestimation of forecasts in the time of expansion and overestimation in the time of recession. At last, the conducted analysis displays that czech institutions are doing not considerably better in forecasting real GPD growth.
Diagnosis of diabetes mellitus in children and young adults
TURKOVÁ, Aneta
Diabetes mellitus is a disease resulting in disordered metabolism of carbohydrates. They include very serious metabolic diseases but still one third of patients remain undiagnosed. Diabetes is one of the most common chronic diseases in children. It can affect children of any age. Diabetes mellitus type 1 occurs more often in children. Diabetes mellitus type 2 was once considered to be only a disease of adults, but today there is an alarming increase of incidence in children and young adults as a result of improper lifestyle and severe obesity. In the theoretical part of my thesis I deal with the issue of hyperglycaemia and I present laboratory methods used to diagnose diabetes mellitus and long-term or short-term compensation of this disease. In detail I focus on the importance of using own glucose meter for self-monitoring. Objective of the thesis and its implementation are set in the practical part. The objective of my thesis was to verify the quality of blood glucose meter Optium Omega manufactured by Abbot using routine method of Clinical Chemistry Laboratory in strict accordance with its intended use within POCT. To verify functionality of blood glucose meter Optium Omega I used recommended statistical procedures.
